Instructor Bio:

Janet Bortnem, BS, RT(R), RDMS, Clinical Coordinator and Instructor for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, has 25+ years of professional experience that includes Diagnostic Imaging Technology in Radiography and Sonography, and in post secondary sonography education.  She completed Radiology School at Sanford USD Medical Center, became registered in Radiography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Registered in Obstetrical/Gynecological, Abdominal, and Breast Sonography through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).  She earned her Baccalaureate degree in Health Care Management from Bellevue University and holds a post secondary credential from the South Dakota Board of Education.  Janet is a current member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and the South Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Description

This hands-on sonographic scanning lab focuses on the knowledge, skills, and techniques for appropriate sonographic image optimization and acquisition related to the abdominal, superficial, and pelvic anatomy. Optimal hemodynamic examination and Doppler analytic interpretation is emphasized. Evaluation of image artifacts and use of a quality assurance instrument are conducted. Prerequisite: CV 123, DMS 200, DMS 200 Corequisite: DMS 210
